Salam, Hello,

Just wanna inform everybody that this blog will be closed (no new posts) for three weeks starting today, June the 22nd, 2009 until July the 12th, 2009. I will be leaving home for the new semester of my studies. I need full concentration to get back on track and succeed. My apologies in advance for any inconveniences. While I'm away, help yourself with the unread entries that you haven't read. And it is quite hard to reach my hands on the keyboard when I'm at my uni due to non-existence of secured internet line. Thus, I will try my best to post new entries sooner or later. With full 100% concentration to my studies, I might get dean lists for next semester. Wish me luck! :)

(43) Should I burn my LEGO collection now?!!!

>> Tuesday, June 16, 2009

Salam, Hello,

Just look at this pic below! I am speechless (but obviously I have to write something about it!)

Firstly, thanks to my new blogger friend, Anya for this particular info. It's okay Anya for you not to click the Forward button, it's your choice. :) and this is what I have to say about this matter. And sorry for taking so much time on this one! :D Busy days..

I've been playing with Lego toys since I was 6 years old. Eventhough my Lego collection is not that huge like my other cousins' but I still love playing them till today. So, seeing such photos really frosted my oyster. And yes, I believe you fellow Muslims also feel that way too. You just name it - INSULTED, HURT, DISAPPOINTED, DEVASTATED and etc.. and Yes, we Muslims are sensitive people when it comes to our religion, some may call us delicate hearts.... and fragile too!

But to put away those emotional sudden reactions and be rational about it, we have to dig out the truths.. or we may end up cursing other with hatred. Lego somehow had made it clear that they don't have any connection behind this manipulating pictures of our Prophet Muhammad, click here to see the official press statement. Okay, that was a brilliant move from Lego. But some Muslims won't believe such irresponsible act - which Lego never did apologize (Well, who could blame you when you're not the one resulting the crime!)

For some Muslims who think they're Muslims enough would stand up and defence Prophet Muhammad. And maybe giving them green lights to make another suicidal bombing, a rally, a protest or maybe add some V.I.O.L.E.N.C.E.... Smile at the cameraman and make us 'proud'!! For some othe Muslims that only have the WORDs power may just be typing statements like what i'm doing now. And add some harsh words-cursing here and there and trying hard to blame others.... but not for me.

Regarding this issue, a Muslim blogger point out this question, "Clearly these Lego images provoke the Prophet Muhammad and why they didn’t do that to their Jesus?" Well then, see these photos below :-

I've been reading/viewing this website for months just in case anyone was asking. For my Christianity studies. :D Oh, what a fine way to teach kids about religion, the 'fun' way! People, we can't stop others from pointing out views. Positively or negatively about our religion. We can't! Sadly, they are making of other religions too! So, nothing can stop them! The Western call this thingy as THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH! That we must respect each others opinions, views and human rights! To me, those people are just have expressed their mockery of and disdain for the Muslim world's violent reaction to the original innocuous Danish cartoons by making new Mohammad depictions that are intentionally disrespectful and/or obscene, to make the point that freedom of speech in Western societies is unconditional. I don't believe freedom of speech, everything we do might requires bonderies and limitation. An appetizer wouldn't be so appetizing when you eat it a lot, would it?

Oh, dear people who think they're more Muslims than me, my dear friends, my blogger friends, please enlighten me! So, what should I do next? Should I now burn down my LEGO collection?

But after all I would not blame the Islamic Fanatics if they bomb or burn down the company though. That's maybe their way of expressing their emotions and views, and you can't blame them. You should respect the Freedom of Speech! :P

p/s :Some may say that those Lego's pictures aren't that insulting compared to pictures in this website which refers to the most extreme, irreverent and iconoclastic images of Prophet Muhammad. Warning before viewing : If you are easily offended, or do not want to see disrespectful images of our Prophet Muhammad, you should not click the link button. May Allah S.W.T give us strenght to hold our anger.

Allahuakbar!!! May Allah lead us to victory!

(41) MEDIA INSPIRATION (Entry 2) - When Celebs say the SMARTEST thing...

>> Saturday, June 13, 2009

Salam, Hello,

Every Sundays, 12.30 p.m. on TV3 Malaysia, Malaysians will watch MELODI - An entertainment-theme TV Programme which updates fans about their beloved artists, celebrities, actors, actresses, directors' news in Malaysia. Also offers new movies' chart, new album reviews, new gossips and including interviews with celebrities.

They (our celebrities) always amaze me a lot when they answer questions from the press. These are just some of the examples :-

1.

*Never did I backbiting and gossiping about her...it's not appropriate at all!!

"O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion, in deeds some suspicions are sins. And spy not neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allah, verily, Allah is The One Who accepts repentance, Most Merciful" (Al-Hujurat 49 : 12)

2.

*It's not fine of accusing people around! And it's not good of you slandering (fitna) me!!

"Fitna is worse than killing" (Al-Baqarah 2 : parts of 191)

3.

*Even the Prophet (Muhammad) forgive His Ummah, so why wouldn't I forgive her?

"The recompense for an evil is an evil like thereof, but whosoever forgives and makes reconciliation/amends, his reward is due from Allah. Verily, He likes not the oppressors" (Ash-Shura 42 :40)

4.

*I didn't drink (liquor/alcohol), okay? I just went for the party, that's all! Moreover, Alcohol is forbidden!

"O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kind of alcoholic drinks), gambling, offerings and fortune-telling using arrows are an abomination of Syaitan's handiwork. So you shall avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful" (Al-Maidah 5 :90)

5.

*Whatsoever people may say about me, I need to be patient. Indeed patience is a part of iman.

"O you who believe! Endure and be more patient (than your enemy), and guard your territory by stationing army units permanently at the places from where the enemy can attack you, and fear Allah, so that you may be successful" (Al-Imran 3 : 200)

Dear, those celebs surely know a lot! There are more thrilling yet exciting answers from celebs which may associates with religious knowledge.. Maybe you can point out some? :)

p/s : Above all, only one celeb so far insulted many Muslims in Malaysia when she made A not so appropriate statement about our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and His first wife, Siti Khadijah.

(40) MEDIA INSPIRATION (Entry 1) - Interjection

>> Thursday, June 11, 2009

Salam, Hello,

Media influence us in many ways. The common one is we tend to act/behave like what we see on Television. Some of my friends (and i believe you too) use Television medium to learn English and improve it by watching English-medium dramas, shows, programmes and etc. Not only we learn how to speak English, but we also tend to copy-cat certain behavior, and some of them aren't that good to follow! But we, Muslims can always control that and do certain things in Islamic way..Let's see how..

The above pictures show us something that we call INTERJECTION - is used to convey sudden emotion (surprise, joy, grief, desbelief and etc). It is usually followed by the exclamation mark (!) at the end of the word or sentences, and is not grammatically related to any other part of the sentences, usually more usage in speaking rather than in writing. Here's a link for those who are new to interjection, click here. Interjection is known as kata seru in Malay.

Interjection is slightly different from melatah (Malay word) -A convulsive tic or hysteric neurosis prevalent among Malays, similar to or identical with miryachit and jumping disease, the person affected performing various involuntary actions and making rapid inarticulate ejaculations in imitation of the actions and words of another person. It may happened as a form of unconscious expression. They melatah when they're mostly shocked upon scenes or actions by somebody. And melatah is commonly longer than interjection.

____________________________________________

Since it is a sudden expression, not all words that came out from the mouth is a good thing. Many suffer from a bad swearing and cursing in order to express emotions. (Including me!) Through my observation, Muslim youths nowadays are comfortable with swearing. I am! And it has becoming a habit. But in Malacca, where I live, swearing in interjection has been our culture in language. So, they is no shock to hear a grandmother calling her grandchild, "Come here, you Moron!" or worse, "Piglet!!!" Thus, making the child making the same mistakes which his grandma showed.

So, I don't think I need to spread more examples as we can always see them on Television, I just assumed everyone knows what I'm talking about! Even though some of my mates regard swearing as cool, fun, funny, exciting and are okay with it, I am in the transition mood of switching my poor habit of interjection to a better position using Islamic interjection which is far in polite way. Let see how it can be done...

____________________________________________

People, our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) once said,

"Those who remember and carry out the practicing of these seven expressions, thus Allah and the angels shall honour him, and his sins will be forgiven even though they're as many as the bubbles in the sea."

These 7 sacred expressions/phrases can be used as our Islamic interjection. Besides getting rewarded, we will feel better as what we speaks are from good deeds. Far better than swearing! These are the 7 sacred expressions :-

The meaning and usage of those phrases are :-
  1. In the name of Allah, Most Gracious Most Merciful. (expression before doing anything in the first place
  2. Thanks be to Allah. (expression for showing gratitude to Allah upon completing one's job or achieving success)
  3. I beg Allah for forgiveness. (expression when one's accidentally speaks evil or repenting of sins)
  4. If Allah wills. (expression of desire of doing something or planning something upcoming)
  5. There is no strength and no power except Allah. (expression when something hard is undone or during the times of troubles or seeing something bad happened)
  6. To Allah we belong and to Him we return. (expression upon hearing news of someone's death or having troubles)
  7. There is no god except Allah. (expression of praising Allah as the only God that worthy of worship)

Besides these 7 sacred phrases, there are plenty more that we can use in interjection and could be our good habit. Click here to know more. :) Thanks.

____________________________________________

p/s : The most used interjection by Malaysian Muslim are YA, ALLAH! and YA, RABBI! We can do it! So, let's change for better. Be yet wiser! Stop swearing for good! :D And learn English only with the best language, not false language.. :)

(38) Don't smile, you look ugly!

>> Thursday, June 4, 2009

Salam, Hello,

He was smiling at me with a weird stare. And I was trying my best to think positive but I can't ignore the potential cause of that matter. Maybe I've done something unaware stupidity. I checked my jeans' zipper, looking up and down my image, facing the train's reflective window. Nothing was wrong with me. Oh, maybe he's just gay! I don't bother much. There was something else in my mind about that strange guy.

Just awhile ago, I gave him his way into the train as I was standing beside the door. Faking my smile to him just to be polite. Haha... but he kept smiling at me. I felt very uncomfortable but luckily the next stop is mine. But again sadly, it was his too.

Adding to the pain, we took the same bus to Shah Alam and he was destined to sit besides me. He was brave enough to make a little conversation with me, avoiding to be rude, I talk a few words. A few minutes passed by, and suddenly he ask, "Do you ever tried any weight-loss products? Have you tried this?" and showing a small bottle of unknown ingredients. (Am I that fat? Fine, but that's not the point here!)

Told you!!! There was something weird about this guy. He is a direct selling guy! So much of a fake smile to gain customers... so lame!

_____________________________________

Speaking of the art of smiling which obviously is not my real talent, it's hard for some people to smile. Friends who are close to me know that I don't enjoy smiling, but laugh a lot. People may be judging me as arrogant or act with my nose in the air. But as usual, I care less about that matter. I think it's better than faking it.

To me, there are several types of smiles, which one is yours? :-

1. Business smile : The smiles of the stewardess, secretaries, salesman and etc. Those smiles are said to be good for their business, portraying such good image of company outlook and building bridges of business opportunities. I find this is okay to the extend that it may benefits both parties. We enjoy your hospitality even from a small and cheap smile.

2. Fake smile : The smiles to hide your true feelings of sadness and pain, the smiles to be polite, the smiles of envious people and the smiles to win heart in a simple way. May be good for some occasions, and may be bad for some.

3. True smile : The smiles of mothers when the see their sons and daughters' great achievement in life, the smiles of religious people and the smiles that melt our hearts.... Basically, the smiles come along with unconditional love, giving out hope and support to the ones they love. The best smile of all. :D

_____________________________________

Yes, it's true, some people are blessed with a smiley face - they are prune to smile in whatever condition. But for me, and maybe some of you of there, smiling has never been an easy task. We have tons of excuses why we shouldn't smile. But when Muslims talk about smile, they will remember this :-

Prophet Muhammad S.A.W (pbuh) once said, "Smiling in the face of your brother is charity (Sadaqqa)" (Jami Tirmidhi)

So, based on those words, I was thinking why Muslims nowadays are less smiling (for example, myself) and frowns a lot?! Somehow I have to admit that Smiling allows me to follow one of many Sunnah, and indeed is it so simple (again, the simplest thing is the hardest thing to do!) And indeed also the simplest way to give away charity in the fastest way of all. I noticed that when we smile, we somehow generate a positive aura and energy to other people, thus making others happy.

Oh, my! I have to start practicing my smiling in front of the mirror and make it a habit from now on. I know it's hard for me, but I'll do it anyway, fake it or not is not the question now.. huhu.. :D Who knows I will be happy even more..(even though I look ugly when I smile in photos) and if a guy smiling at me, maybe I'll smile back at him! haha... :P

p/s : I found that smiling also is one way of winning hearts - the Islamic way. Read more of the benefits of smiling, here. Trust me, it's worth reading.
