Salam, Hello,
Media influence us in many ways. The common one is we tend to act/behave like what we see on Television. Some of my friends (and i believe you too) use Television medium to learn English and improve it by watching English-medium dramas, shows, programmes and etc. Not only we learn how to speak English, but we also tend to copy-cat certain behavior, and some of them aren't that good to follow! But we, Muslims can always control that and do certain things in Islamic way..Let's see how..

The above pictures show us something that we call
INTERJECTION - is used to convey sudden emotion (surprise, joy, grief, desbelief and etc). It is usually followed by the exclamation mark (!) at the end of the word or sentences, and is not grammatically related to any other part of the sentences, usually more usage in speaking rather than in writing. Here's a link for those who are new to interjection, click
here. Interjection is known as
kata seru in Malay.
Interjection is slightly different from
melatah (Malay word) -A convulsive tic or hysteric neurosis prevalent among Malays, similar to or identical with miryachit and jumping disease, the person affected performing various involuntary actions and making rapid inarticulate ejaculations in imitation of the actions and words of another person. It may happened as a form of unconscious expression. They
melatah when they're mostly shocked upon scenes or actions by somebody. And
melatah is commonly longer than interjection.

Since it is a sudden expression, not all words that came out from the mouth is a good thing. Many suffer from a bad swearing and cursing in order to express emotions. (Including me!) Through my observation, Muslim youths nowadays are comfortable with swearing. I am! And it has becoming a habit. But in Malacca, where I live, swearing in interjection has been our culture in language. So, they is no shock to hear a grandmother calling her grandchild, "Come here, you Moron!" or worse, "Piglet!!!" Thus, making the child making the same mistakes which his grandma showed.
So, I don't think I need to spread more examples as we can always see them on Television, I just assumed everyone knows what I'm talking about! Even though some of my mates regard swearing as cool, fun, funny, exciting and are okay with it, I am in the transition mood of switching my poor habit of interjection to a better position using Islamic interjection which is far in polite way. Let see how it can be done...

People, our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) once said,
"Those who remember and carry out the practicing of these seven expressions, thus Allah and the angels shall honour him, and his sins will be forgiven even though they're as many as the bubbles in the sea."
These 7 sacred expressions/phrases can be used as our Islamic interjection. Besides getting rewarded, we will feel better as what we speaks are from good deeds. Far better than swearing! These are the 7 sacred expressions :-
- In the name of Allah, Most Gracious Most Merciful. (expression before doing anything in the first place
- Thanks be to Allah. (expression for showing gratitude to Allah upon completing one's job or achieving success)
- I beg Allah for forgiveness. (expression when one's accidentally speaks evil or repenting of sins)
- If Allah wills. (expression of desire of doing something or planning something upcoming)
- There is no strength and no power except Allah. (expression when something hard is undone or during the times of troubles or seeing something bad happened)
- To Allah we belong and to Him we return. (expression upon hearing news of someone's death or having troubles)
- There is no god except Allah. (expression of praising Allah as the only God that worthy of worship)
Besides these 7 sacred phrases, there are plenty more that we can use in interjection and could be our good habit. Click here to know more. :) Thanks.
